Am I the only one who see warm and moody colours everywhere? The past years, the graphic design world has been dominated by bold and bright colours with modern compositions and gradients. However, more natural colours with a harmonious feel are back in the game. The overuse of the previous design trends has created a need for a more unique and calm design style.
Muted Colour Palettes
Bold design colours such as electric yellows, bright blues, or toxic greens are slowly disappearing. This makes room for more muted, warm, and moody colours. Muted colours are slightly desaturated with white, black, or complementary colours – the opposite of vivid colours.
Black Background
When you work with a black background, try to use darker muted colours. This way the colours will blend well. These promotion posters for a charity fund by Anastasia Panina and Alexandra Kharitonova show that perfectly.
White Background
For a white background, lighter muted colours will be a good start as they work almost flawlessly with neutral colours and a harsh contrast will be avoided.
Colour Background
By using a muted background colour, it is possible to make a simple text or even other visual content a lot easier to read. It is also a good why to tie different graphic design elements together. Sr. y Sra. Wilson used muted colours when designing the identity for ‘I am Nuria’. It is a very clever way to use muted colour backgrounds.
What is Next?
It can be difficult to choose the right muted colours in accordance with the brand identity across all platforms. If you need help or have any questions, leave a comment orĀ contact me.
