When I look at Paper Matters, I always feel proud. This was my first, very own business that I built from the ground up, with my business partner, Janni. It had always been a big dream of mine to start my own company or to be a part of a start-up. I love the passion and energy behind such projects, and so far, it has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
After some solo traveling through Indonesia, I came back home to Denmark and felt like I was ready to start my own little thing - I just had to try. So, in 2015 I started my own company: Paper Matters. The goal was to create a community for young and passion-driven designers. We wanted to give creatives a platform where they could get noticed and acknowledged for their work. Paper Matters was based on the belief that great design is created by great designers who are not afraid to grow and learn.
I designed the visual identity, built the website with inbuilt e-commerce, and contacted all the designers. We sold real art as posters from young designers and artists and formed a community. I managed all the practical things including all levels of the supply chain such as shipping. Additionally, I handled the advertising and social media accounts. It was a lot of work, but I learned so much about what to do, and what not to do when you do business.
